Today i will write something very interesting related to english. We always think that the phrases are not very easy. Those are like big words and definitions but i must say that when you start understanding the phrases you will change this view point and start enjoying the phrases.

I have written about writing english already and today i will write something on spoken english. Now a days we find a lot of institutes providing spoken english exercises  and i guess it is because of the importance it is gaining per day. So today let me share with you something on spoken english.

A letter of interest

Today i will share you something which i experienced last night. I got a letter from one of my friend. She was with me in school. She used to write the initial capital letter of her name in a very unique way and when i got the letter, seeing the same thing, i refreshed my school days' memories.

I must say it was a letter of interest. She shared with me about her professional life and also many a things on her personal life. She also wrote many things about our school days. Her letter brought to me a sense of nostalgia. I recollected all those sweet memories and i realized how i miss my school days, the best days of my life. I think not just me but school days are best days of everyone's life and all misses those days.

Writing english

I have already told you about my crazy love for the english language and english poetry. And today moving further to other concepts, i will write about writing in English language. Writing concerns with the alphabets, grammars, vocabulary words and definitions etc. Without wasting further time, lets move on to writing English.

As you know there are different types of writing. I will share with you a few. One is reflective writing and another one is conversational writing. Reflecting is that where one writes in order to reflect ones views on the readers. Conversational is that where you not just invite your readers to read but you invite them to involve in with your writing.

Prose and poetry writing is again a complete different thing. In prose you give explanation without maintaining any rhyme or verse or any format While poetry deals in that. Further play writing is again different. Play writing basically deals with dialogic  writing.

Basically these are the different types of writing. Now you put your imagination and follow any writing that you want. I love writing and i assure you too will. So explore writing and enjoy it.

A personal letter

Being very nostalgic, i wrote a letter to a school friend last night. I could have called her but somehow the urge to write a letter came to my mind. As soon as i started writing, i realized how different personal letter format is from a formal letter format. I am used to formal letters as i write it in a regular basis in my professional life but writing a letter to a friend was a complete different experience and also interesting too.

A personal letter is a kind of informal letters. You feel free to convey your emotions and there is no strict format that you need to follow. After quite a long time i was writing a letter to a friend. I shared with her about my life and also recalled some past moments that we shared together. The letter was forcefully concluded by me as words were flowing out of me like anything. I had to stop as it was already too late. But i enjoyed this writing and i suggest you to try it.

You might be thinking, why to write letters when we can directly talk at phones, but the thing is you just feel so good and relax after writing a letter and and also your letter will be a soothing gift for the recipient too. So get some time from your busy schedule and dedicate it to letters. Write letters to your dear ones, you will feel great and the response will be overwhelming too. For now get relaxed and just enjoy writing letters.

Poetry lover

Reading poetry is not enjoyed by everyone. I am a great poetry lover but every one of you may not be so. But i can assure you that after reading William Wordsworth's poetry if not a fan, you will start liking poetry for sure. So just to give a beautiful beginning, i will start with Wordsworth's The solitary reaper.

Wordsworth is one of the greatest romantics and his poems always take you to a different aura. In order to get relaxed after a hectic schedule, reading his poetry works like a cooling stuff. You can also try reading poems of  the other romantics like Keats and Shelly. Shelly's Ode to the west wind is one of my all time favorites.

Talking about the solitary reaper, it is a poem about a highland lass whose melancholic strain touches Wordsworth's soul and the poem is a resultant of it. The way the poet has conveyed his emotions related to the song of the reaper was like awesome. I read this poem for the first time at school and since then i have read this poem for more than a hundred times and every time i read it, i am carried away to a different world, a world of imagination.

Wordsworth's poems are interesting and at the same time he evokes in you an inspiration to imagine and many a times you end up writing poems. It happened to me and so i am so confident that it works. I am sure you will love it, so for now just enjoy the enchanting world of poetry.

How to write an informal letter

Letter writing is an art which is used to communicate with others. In today's world letter writing is dying away because of the extensive use of  mobile phones and internet. However it has not lost its flavour yet. You are used to formal letters as it is a part of our professional life but not at home with the art of informal letters. So here i will share with you my knowledge about writing informal letters.

Informal letters are unofficial letters and are written to family, friends or relatives. It is basically written to convey your personal feelings and emotions. I will try to provide you an  informal letter format for your better understanding.

Informal letters are written to convey emotions and so dashing words are not needed to impress the recipient. It is better if we keep it simple. The only thing is that we use the proper way to convey our emotions.Letter to a mother, a friend and anyone close to you can be examples of informal letter.

While writing an informal letter it is not necessary to maintain a strict format but few things are necessary to put in such as: the writer's name, the writer's address and the date. Mentioning these three things are necessary in order to avoid misunderstandings.

Rhetoric

When we speak a language, knowingly or unknowingly we always tend to play with the language. Same is with the english language. In our day to day life we use rhetoric and thus play with the language. Rhetoric in the sense using the figures of speech.  Examples of  Simile, metaphor and also examples of personification are the most commonly used, be it intentionally or the otherwise.

In order to make you understand about these uses let me provide you with some examples of these figures of speech. Starting with simile, it is a figure of speech which is used to compare two unlike things mostly using the words such as "like" or "as". Following are examples of simile:

He fights like lion
She is as clever as a fox.

Metaphor is another figure of speech which is also used to compare two unlike things but without using like or as. Following are examples of metaphor:
The salesman was a shark.
His teeth are white pearls.
Many poets also use extended metaphors. The poem mother to son by Langston Hughes is an extended metaphor example.

Personification is that with which we personify something. As for example:

The house is looking cheerful.
My computer is acting strange.

Learning english

I like writing about English and it is because we can always play with the language. But in order to do that we need to have good hold over the language and its grammatical bounds. Let us start with the parts of speech. We all are familiar with the parts of speech and so lets turn to the English connectors. Hey, do not get confused, English connectors are nothing but one of the parts of speech. Conjunctions are also called english connectors as it connects two or more words or sentences. Conjunctions like and, either, or etc are positive connectors. On the other hand conjunctions like but, neither, nor etc are negative connectors. Following are examples of using  positive and negative english connectors respectively.

John and Tom are cousins ( positive english connector )
He is rich but humble ( negative english connector )


This is about playing with the grammar. We can also have fun with rhetoric, i.e. figures of speech. Taking the simplest of the figures of speech, metaphor, lets start.


Metaphor is something which we use the most in our regular speech but the fact is that we are not conscious about it. Metaphors are  used to compare two unlike things instead of using "as" or "like". I have given few metaphor examples for kids, so that it becomes easier for you to understand the uses of metaphor.

Examples:
Her eyes are jewels sparkling in the sun.
The harvest moon is a great pumpkin in the sky.
